As people in desperate need of a Savior, we are called to simply believe. “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). It’s as simple as that! It is our sin that separates us from God, and because of that, Jesus, The Lamb of God, became sin on the cross of Calvary (2 Corinthians 5:21). It is nothing we did or said, but out of God’s love and grace, He sent His only begotten Son to rid of us of our filth. How amazing is that truth? We have a Savior who died for you and me!
The previous posts from this week all point to the simple fact that we are each individually loved by the Creator of this Universe. We are His own special people (1 Peter 2:9). So what do we do with this amazing truth?
We embrace it, we tell others about it, we grow in this truth, and we wait on the promises of the Lord. God desires and wants our heart. He wants us to know Him, love Him, and allow Him to use us for His glory.
For years, I thought that if I said the right things, or if I helped out with enough church events, that I would make God happy. I soon realized that I was not seeking after God. I was not pursuing a real relationship with God. Instead, I thought doing everything for Him would be enough. My actions may have been good, but my heart was not in the right place. More than any of these actions, God wants our obedience and our hearts.
I’m no physician, but I do know that as humans, we cannot live without a beating, active heart. Isn’t it funny how the heart is the center of our being, and it is the very thing that God is calling us to give to Him?
“Give me your heart, my son, and let your ways delight in my ways”
Proverbs 23:26
The Lord is asking us to give us His heart and serve Him. Essentially, He is saying, give me your all! In doing this, we are allowing God to transform us. To turn something bad into something good. There is a sense of intimacy in this request. He is calling us to follow Him with everything that we have.
If we know the truth of the Gospel, and believe it to be true, then we need to follow Him with our whole heart. We need to give our hearts to God and allow Him to use us in ways we can’t imagine. David, an adulterer and a murder, gave his heart to God and in return God blessed Him. God called David a man after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:2). How amazing is that? God turned David’s mess into something beautiful, because David was willing to serve Him with all that he had.
If you are a believer, God considers you as His beloved child, and when you begin to seek Him, you will find that He is running to you. In Deuteronomy, Moses tells the Israelites, “If you search for Him with all your heart and soul, you will find Him” (4:29). God is waiting on you and me.
It seems like finding the God of all creation may be hard, but the truth is, it’s not! He’s ready and waiting. It’s actually quite simple: we can find God’s truths and his character in the Holy Bible! The more time you spend in His presence, the more He begins to reveal His truths to you. The more vulnerable you are with Him, the more He is able to shape and mold you into the man/woman He has intended you to be. The Word of God is a powerful Book that speaks truth into our lives. It’s “living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of the soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). The Bible cuts to our heart and penetrates our very being. Join me in allowing God’s Word to shape us. Give your heart to God and allow Him to energize it with His Word!
