When we look at the famous leaders in history, what do they have that made them so unique and easy to follow? Simple, THEY STOOD OUT. They weren’t part of the crowd, they didn’t listen to what others had to say, they followed what they knew was true to them. Not only did they stand up for what they thought was right, but they also got people to follow them, to join their cause.
Just like them, we need to stand for what we know is true. Truth to me is the Word of God and nothing else. No quote or song lyric comes close to the joy and peace that I feel when I read verses like 1 Peter 1:3-4: “It is by His great mercy that we have been born again…now we live with great expectation…and we have a priceless inheritance…pure and undefiled…” John 14: 1 & 6 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and also in Me” Jesus told him, “ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.” 1 Corinthians 13:7 “ Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
However the verse that has been speaking to my heart lately is, James 1:27
Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means…refusing to let the world corrupt you.
These words have substance! It is said that you become who or what you surround yourself with. I have witnessed in my own life that I tend to pick up the mannerisms of the people who I spend the most time with – without even knowing it at first. This made me think: a person’s way of thinking can also change due to different circumstances, experiences, and influences around them. So why not be the change and the positive influence that the world needs? Why not stand out in a positive way? My immediate thought was of a dear friend that I lost last year, Lester Brooks. He stood out in SO many ways; the first was his infectious smile. That smile could light up a room and still, to this day, brightens up my heart. His testimony is even more profound. This brother in Christ brought so many people to the Lord, sometimes by not even saying a word. Just the way he lived his life was truly Christ-like. It was said at his funeral, that every decision he made was truly to glorify God. Imagine being a young man having the whole world at your fingertips – yet he stayed so strong and in tune with his Savior that nothing could phase him. He was ALWAYS smiling. Nothing can bring that kind of peace and happiness in one’s heart than Jesus Christ. Lester touched lives while here on this earth and from beyond the grave. He led a life and left a legacy that will live forever impact many lives. These are qualities that I strive to achieve and mirror in my own life. He stood up for the Gospel; he lived a life that many men, generations before him didn’t have the boldness to lead.
So I thought to myself: Cecilia, what are YOU doing to stand out? Are you standing up for your faith? Are you living a life that is pleasing to God? Do you impact others to live a godly life? Or are you letting the filth of this world corrupt you, are you falling into Satan’s traps?
There’s a famous quote, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” I don’t want to be a person who just goes through life as it comes. I want to be a person who grabs life and LIVES it. Someone who genuinely enjoys every minute! We are all called to a purpose and that is to lead a godly life and to spread the Good News to those around us (Mathew 28:19-20).
BE THAT CHANGE. SPREAD THE LOVE OF CHRIST. SOON IT WILL CAUSE A CHAIN REACTION.
