All I want to write about today is Him. That’s so girly of me. Girls always seem to end up talking about guys. Usually it comes down to the dream guy. We know he won’t be perfect, but he’s who we see in our dreams. This guy will fulfill every thing on our checklist. The checklist started when we were young. The first few items on the checklist are silly, like – tall, dark, handsome. But then growing up it becomes a little more serious – plays sports, sings well, can cook. And thennnnnn, life really hits us and we realize that we need something substantial on this checklist otherwise we’re going to end up with some guy from ‘The Notebook’ – not real. So we add on to the checklist some solid character qualities –
Okay, now we have a pretty good list going.
Honestly, I’m almost 99.9% certain that I’ve met my dream guy. This is so exciting, right?! The moment you see your checklist actually in human form. Like really, this can’t be real, can it? He can’t possibly be right in front of my face. It’s too good to be true. Dreams actually come true?! Ahhhh! I feel like a Disney princess. This is a fairy tale.
Now that I see my dream guy, I wonder, does He see me?
“for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
He does more than just see me. He knows me. He came here just for me. I’m the only one on His mind. There’s nothing that beats this Love story.
Jesus Christ. He’s actually not a dream at all. He’s real. It seems like He’s my checklist that came down in human form, but really He takes my checklist and makes it look like I’m settling. He takes my checklist and says, “That’s all you want? I’m giving you so much more than that.” He then proceeds to rip up my checklist that I’ve spent years on creating and says, “I’m it. I’m the One, the only One.”
I’m not saying don’t have a checklist. Actually I guess I am saying that. Don’t have a checklist. Jesus Christ is standing right in front of you. He’s here just for you and He’s perfect. There is no doubt about that. He is perfect. We never thought we could have the perfect one, oh, but we are so wrong. We do have the most perfect person to have ever walked this earth. And now He’s waiting for us in Heaven, seated at the right hand of God, just waiting. While He waits to be with us one day, He loves us as we are here. Once we accept that our checklist looks silly compared to all He is, then we see Jesus Christ. We truly see Him. And once we see Him, all the things that were once on our checklist become more about us than about what we are looking for in someone else. He starts breaking and making us into those character qualities we had on our checklist. It becomes about our relationship with Him not our relationship with anyone else. He starts making me outstanding. He begins to humble me. He makes me a leader in the things He wants me to lead in. He teaches me how to be selfless. And He gives me 100% assurance that there is no sweeter life than with Him. Jesus Christ has given me a free gift. Yes, He’s given me the free gift of eternal life. But first, He gave me Himself. He says, “Here you go, I am all yours.” I don’t really know what else to say. If that’s not perfect or dreamy enough, I don’t know what is.
Take your checklist and check everything off or cut it up or burn it or do whatever, but let it go! Don’t go looking anymore. He’s met all your needs. He’s met all your wants and dreams. There is no need to dream anymore. There is no one who can top Him. Stop settling for mediocre. He’s giving you the best. And yes, loving Him and being committed to Him requires extreme amounts of faith. It requires steadfastness and hoping for something that is to come. But know that any checklist you’ve ever created will be blown to pieces once you give your life to Him. Say He does bless you with an earthly spouse, you’ll see, that man/woman you end up with is going to be more than you would’ve ever imagined. When Jesus Christ gives, He really gives. He goes all out. But don’t get your own doing mixed up with Jesus Christ’s giving. Focus on Him and don’t worry about the details.
When He proposed to us, He didn’t just get down on one knee. He died the most gruesome death on the cross while popping the big question, “Will you…” then He continued asking as He rose from the grave, “…marry…” and finished as He took His place in Heaven by our Heavenly Father, “…Me?”
“Then He said to them all, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.'”
It’s your turn. What will your answer be?
We may not be physically with Jesus Christ right now, but He’s always with us. And what makes it even better is hope. This is a forever love. He doesn’t change. He won’t ever change. Jesus Christ will love us the same forever. He’s done more than enough to show us how He loves. Let’s show Him that we are all for Him. One day we will be standing in front of Him. We will meet face to face with the One who came just for us. It’s going to be great.
