A New Thing

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19

I don’t know about you, but when I read God’s Word sometimes, I have a hard time accepting what He is saying to me as reality. This passage is no different. It seems too good to be true!

As I look back on 2013, I understand that a lot has happened! What’s funny is that out of all the good that has happened, it’s easier for me to recall the bad parts than the good. I can easily recount how I lost my temper with someone, but trying to remember when I spoke words of encouragement to someone…things get fuzzy. Does that ever happen for you?

It’s a brand new year! I have no idea if your 2013 was amazing, depressing, surprising, heart-breaking, or somewhere in between. However, I do know that regardless of what year you did have, God promises to give you a new year. If that just seems like too much to consider, then I implore you to claim the promise of a brand new day!

Put behind those days where you felt like a stumbling block. Ignore the voices of doubt, fear, and accusations of past sins. It’s in the PAST! God calls us to look forward not behind. Don’t allow the memory of your mistakes enslave you from claiming God’s blessings. If you continue to read the chapter, God says:

I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Isaiah 43:25

Isn’t that insane to consider? The holy omnipotent God who hates sin blots our sins for HIS sake! He chooses to remove our sins from His memory because He wants to maintain His relationship with you! How incredible is that? For me, it’s truly unbelievable, but God is a God of miracles. That’s exactly what each day is. It’s a miracle from God.

I’ll never forget what a cancer patient once told me, “Each day is better than the last.” I hope I can say that about 2014 regardless of what happens. Yes, there will be days that won’t be pleasant to say the least, but those days will only be temporary. Only God is constant, so are His Words and His promises. Don’t wait another day to claim yours.
