The Dirty Creation

Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high, Who humbleth Himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth! He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; That He may set him with princes, even with the princes of His people. Psalm 113:5-8

God is the most creative person that I know. I’m very much a sunset and constellations kind of girl. As much as I love Van Gogh’s painting “Starry Night”, it doesn’t even compare to what God has painted across the skies! Don’t believe me? Well, then you haven’t witnessed a Texan sunset arrayed with almost all colors of the rainbow at once. His creativity knows no end! You know that not two snowflakes are alike?

As breathtaking as the galaxies, lakes, animals, and flowers around us are, WE are the pinnacle of His creation. Did you know that when two parents conceive a child, there are over trillions of genetic combinations that are possible? Yet out of trillions of possibilities, YOU were the one that God stitched together. How insane is that? There aren’t even that many people alive on our planet, yet here you are!

I’m going to be honest with you. Growing up, especially during my teenage years, I certainly did not feel like I was one in a trillion. No, there were days when I wondered if God was distracted when He made me. How come I’m not as pretty? How come I have this nose? Why do I have this obnoxious laugh?

I knew that God spoke all of creation into existence with His words except mankind. He breathed life into dirt to create us…There were some days that I just couldn’t get past the dirt part.

God is all-powerful, all-sufficient, and all-knowing. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end! He is beyond our human comprehension, yet He still wants to have a personal relationship with us. He humbles Himself by beholding us, His creation!

If that wasn’t humbling enough, imagine the humility it took for Christ to step into the very landscape He created in order to become a human, live the perfect life, and die the most humiliating death. Why would He humble Himself like that?!

The answer is in the Psalm: He came to raise up the poor out of the DUST (our natural state) and to establish us as Royalty (our inheritance) among the people of His kingdom! Presently, I’m 23, ten years older than the insecure teen going through the awkwardness of adolescence, but here’s the thing. I still struggle with believing that I’m one in a trillion. There are still days when I feel lower than dirt, especially when I slip and fall on my face. However, I refuse to let that keep me from living as the daughter of the King!

My worth is not based on my appearance, brain, relationships, abilities, or my low origin. My worth purely comes from Christ who humbled Himself by clothing this dirty human with His righteousness. I am His, and He is MINE!! Claim Him for yourself. It’s NEVER too late. Remember He knows how to transform dirt into Masterpieces!

  1. Love that last statement, “he knows how to transform dirt into masterpieces”, well put … And very humbling!
