Shake the World!

Y’all. I LOVE this week’s song, “Shake the World,” by Finding Favour. I can guarantee you that as soon as the chorus stars, I’ve already got a big, cheesy smile plastered across my face. I can’t help it though! When I think about the Body of Christ coming together for a single, unified purpose, it just thrills my heart! The Lord Jesus came to this earth for ONE reason: To set us free. So why is it that we’re still living like we’re in shackles?

In order to be effective ambassadors of the Gospel, we have to come to terms with a few things. We need to have an ACCURATE view of:

  1. Who we were
  2. Who we are
  3. Who God intended us to be

WHO WE WERE: Scum of the earth. If I had a worse term in mind I would use it. I know what you’re thinking (because I used to think it too – and sometimes still do): “Yeah well, we’re sinners. And we mess up a lot. But scum of the earth? Isn’t that a little much? Isn’t that overkill?” No, my dear friends. This is not an over exaggeration. This is a very literal and, in truth, a euphemistic description of “who we were.” We keep comparing ourselves to the prostitute or the thief or the murderer or the rapist or the drug dealer or the girl who just shows a little more skin. We keep thinking that we’re really not that bad. And therein lies the problem. If we want to have an ACCURATE view of who we were before we came to know the Lord, then we need to go to the only ACCURATE source: The Word.

“for at one time you were darkness…”

Ephesians 5:8a

So there you have it. This is just one of the many verses that reminds us of who we really were before Christ. We WERE darkness. Naturally, innately evil. So next time you think you’re sins are less putrid than the sins of another person, remember this truth. Before Christ, you (and I), were darkness, beyond hope, beyond repair. And nothing we did of ourselves could change that.

WHO WE ARE: Redeemed. Sin, fear, pride, worry, stress, insecurity, self-pity, self-deception, self-destruction. All things Christ set us free from. But for some reason, we’re living as if we’re still bound by these things. Let me remind you of this TRUTH: You are not defined by any of the things listed above. Not even by the clothes you wear, not by the things you’ve done, not by the way you style your hair, not by your political opinions or social interests. Those are things that define the world. You are different. You are DEFINED by the blood that was spilled for you, by the hands that were pierced for you, by the Cross that was carried for you. Those are the only actions that define you. And in case you forgot, those are not YOUR actions, but the actions of a selfless Savior who died and suffered for you. That is the definition of Love, my friends. And that definition has been transposed for the one you wore: Instead of “ugly, broken, sinful, screw up” YOU ARE “pure, holy, masterpiece, child, loved.”

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Colossians 3:3

WHO GOD INTENDED US TO BE: Warriors. Filled with passion, integrity, boldness and joy. Christ didn’t die so that we could hide in the shadows. He didn’t die so that we could live comfortably. He didn’t die so that we could marry a modern-day mix of Abraham, David, and Paul, have an 8-5 job, live in a perfect suburban neighborhood, raise 4-8 perfectly behaved children, and retire on a ranch house furnished with handmade rocking chairs pointed towards the west. He died so that we could LIVE. He died so that we could know our Heavenly Father. He died to adopt us into His family, to give us an abundant life. He died to show us how much He loved us. And THAT, my friends, should PROPEL us to share the wondrous Truth of His Love. Christ died for a purpose; each of us was created for a purpose. God desires that we would carry out that purpose until our last breath.

but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light

Ephesians 5:8b

Who did God intend us to be? Ambassadors for His Kingdom. The salt of the earth. The light of the world. The city on a hill. He intended us to be His hands and feet, His heart for the suffering, His arms for the weary. The best way to carry out this purpose, the ONLY way to carry it out is by sharing His goodness with the world. Friends, let the world taste and see that the LORD IS GOOD! Let them hear the wonders of His saving grace! Let them know the power of His unfailing Love! Let them understand that He would move heaven and earth to save just one more fallen soul.

Who we were? Darkness.
Who we are? Redeemed.
Who God intends us to be? Warriors.

Don’t let the everyday grind allow you to be a simple gawker in the midst of the most dangerous battle ever known. This isn’t just a physical war. This is a spiritual war. It’s not just life and death. It’s the battle to win souls for the Kingdom of God. It’s a battle that will have ETERNAL consequences. Don’t get caught in the crossfire. And don’t just sit around watching it all happen around you. BREAK THE SHACKLES holding you back from sharing His Love with others.

It’s time to start marching to the beat of Christ’s heart! All of us TOGETHER – the sons and daughters of the Most High. It’s time to live with an eternal perspective, to move to the rhythm of the Kingdom to come.

It’s time to SHAKE THE WORLD, y’all.

    1. 🙂 Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, Mercy! All glory to our Father! Praying He would build us up and equip us to carry out His purposes to “shake the world” with His Truth!

P.S. Glad you liked the song. It’s one of my current faves!
