Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:3-7
As I was reading the first chapter of 1 Peter, my heart just overflowed with so many emotions including: thankfulness, love, reassurance, hope, and joy. I really think the chapter speaks for itself. If you are a Christian, you have so much to be thankful for! This post isn’t about anything novel, but it is a vital reminder to remember and to cling to God’s promises especially during the trials we endure in life.
There have been times where my hope for the next life was the only thing that kept me going. Even on the days that I felt like I was just a zombie or at my lowest, I still possessed something that many may never have: a living hope. I have an inheritance that I am can claim one day soon!
I know it sounds crazy, but I can rejoice even during my time of suffering. In this life, our testing is temporary, but they actually have eternal impact. Our experiences are more precious than gold because when our faith is tested, God will be the one who is ultimately glorified!
On that note, NONE of this would be possible if Christ had not come down, lived the perfect life, died on the cross as our substitute, and rose again defeating death once and for all! This Sunday was a celebration of the greatest victory of mankind. Our faith would be in vain if Jesus had stayed dead. Because He conquered the impossible, we get an incorruptible inheritance. The basis of our living hope is a risen Savior who holds the power of resurrection. This was the only way we could be born again, ultimately transferred into the kingdom of light!
How blessed are we to be pursued by God in order to be part of His family? Even though we have nothing to bring to the table, He still loves us and showers us with His grace and mercy. During the dark days, your living hope for Heaven may be the only silver lining. However, I challenge you to view your living hope as your greatest treasure before trials enter the picture. Take time to delight in Him.
