Ambition… and Judgement?

I recently heard a quote,

“It’s only human to get caught up sometimes in how something is received, but at the end of the day it’s not going to change your ambition…it’s not going to change mine for sure.”

I’d like to take that and apply it to being a witness and spreading the Gospel.

It’s easy to be discouraged when you feel like everyone is judging you because you are Christian. A lot of people tend to automatically label you as a hypocrite, or as if you claim to be perfect. When in reality it’s not that you’re saying you’re perfect or better than anyone. It’s you admitting that you are a sinner, you make mistakes, you fall, you go through struggles and trying times, and you are in need of a Savior and in need of grace.

There have been so many times when I’ve been labeled as a hypocrite, or have been judged by an even harder standard because of my faith.

As Christians we should be aware of the things that we say and the way we live our lives. It may be hard, but we should try to live in a way that is above reproach, and live in a way that would make it hard for people to believe the negative things that are being said about us.

In all of that, when we try to share our faith or when others know of our faith in Christ, it comes with a lot of judgment. People around us may give us a lot of flack for the fact that we may not be involved in the same things they are, or maybe because in some instances, we “act good” or are held to a higher standard; it is perceived as if we are “superior,” or as if we think we are “better” than other people.

At the end of the day, don’t get caught up in the way that things are being perceived. Don’t let the negativity of others change your ambition, or passion in your heart to spread the good news to others. I love the way 1 Peter 4:14 states it.

“If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of  God rests upon you…”

It’s been said that when others combat your kindness and your love for the Lord with negative defenses, it’s because they know subconsciously there is truth to what you are saying.

Don’t let anyone or anything change your ambition to spread the love of Christ. Share ways that the Lord has transformed your life from a negative to a positive. Share your struggles with others, show them you are honestly just like everyone else. The only difference is you have a hope and peace that there is Someone always there to pick you up when you do fall. Someone to cleanse you from your sins, and remind you that you are precious no matter what you’ve done in your past.

Any time you get discouraged, think of the time someone took the time and fought through the negative opinions to tell YOU about Christ’s love. Think about that very moment you asked Christ to enter into your heart.

Be reminded daily of how much the Lord is faithful and merciful in your life. Use that to fuel that fire of helping others in the best way that you can.
