Did God Forget About Me?

God sees my ways and counts every step I take. (Job 31:4)

There is nothing random about God. There may be days when you feel like He’s forgotten about you. But regardless of how you feel, He hasn’t.

God doesn’t just check in on us occasionally, He’s an ever-present God who is intimately acquainted with us. He knows every hair on our heads and He counts every single step that we take.

I don’t know how many hairs are on my head, and even the two pedometers on my phone can’t seem to come up with the same number at the end of the day for how many steps I’ve taken! But God knows when a hair falls from your head and keeps a record of the steps you’ve taken. If this is true, if He’s keeping track of these insignificant things about your life, do you think that He will forget about anything important?

God has a plan for your life. He’s always had a plan. He wrote it down before you were born and He’s been unraveling it precisely as your days unfold. He’s not making it up as He goes along or playing a game of chance with your life.

The funny thing about God’s plan is that it hardly ever matches up with our own carefully laid out plans for our lives. It might not happen next year like you wanted it to – it might take twenty years. It might not happen at all, and if that’s the case, it’s because something better was always meant to happen instead.

God does not lie and He is committed to keeping His promise to you. Search the Scriptures and write out the promises that God has vowed to you. Make them personal because they are.

God has promised that all things will work out for good for His children (Romans 8:28), that He will comfort us when we go through trials (2 Corinthians 1:3-4), that He will finish the work He started in us (Philippians 1:6), and that He will supply all our needs (Matthew 6:33). There are many, many more promises listed in the Word of God.

These are not offhand or casual promises; they are rock solid, unequivocal vows made by God Himself. Because God is faithful, those who receive His promises can have full assurance that what God has guaranteed will be realized at the appointed time.

There’s nothing accidental about God at all. He created the earth for us to live in, He created bodies for us to grow in, He gave us families for us to thrive in, He gave us jobs to do and He has been preparing a reward for our retirement. There’s nothing accidental about that at all. God has been intentionally giving us opportunities to experience everything He has created each one of us for.

The unfortunate thing is that we often tend to live our lives day-to-day, hiding from the worrying fact that we were made in the image of God – in the image of an intentional God.

We must be willing to intentionally respond to our intentional God. This means that we must seek intimacy with the Lord and our desire in all things must be to reflect glory back to the Father. We can’t have dual motivations. We can’t cater both to spiritual things and things of the flesh.

As children of God, we must realize that He has a specific purpose and plan for each of us. And that purpose and plan is magnificent! It’s better than the best we could come up with for ourselves.

If He is counting every step you take, He is not going to forget about the bigger stuff. You can count on it.
