Change is good and often necessary. As we get older we mature and evolve and tend to change for the better. As Christians we change our thoughts and our actions to be more like Christ. We strive to be like Him in all that we do. We forsake our sinful ways, turn to Him, and live to bring Him glory. Change is great, and though we may change and often time our circumstances may change, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ never changes. He remains constant through every circumstance. His love stays true in every situation we are in, and we can depend on Him through every trial.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8
This verse has been engrained into my memory since a very young age. It’s a verse that I have grown up knowing, and yet so often forget when I am struggling with something in my life. The God we serve is a holy God, and because He is holy, His words are true. The verse above is the truth. The God who delivered Israelites from the hands of the Egyptians is the same God we serve today. The God who shut the mouths of lions is the same God who will protect us in times of need. The God who sent His only begotten Son to die on the cross for our needs, is the same God who hears our every cries and provides comfort in our time of need. He is the same God! If He was with the saints in the Old Testament, then you must believe that He is here with us today.
“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.’” – John 14:23
Jesus Christ Himself tells us that if we love Him, He and His Father will dwell with in us! How often do we forget this truth? I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of this. I forget that the living, holy God whom we serve dwells within my heart. He is here to stay. God’s words are true and He cannot break His promises. As a child we learn to trust that our parents or caretakers will be there for us if we are hurt or in need of something. We trust because they have proven themselves to be faithful in caring for our needs. In the same way, Jesus Christ has shown us over and over that He does not change. He cannot change. He is the same, always. His love for us will remain and there is nothing we can do to change that!
True joy comes in knowing that we serve a God who loves us even through our changing circumstances. When circumstances get difficult and you begin to doubt God’s promise, go through His word and see how He continues to remain constant and good. When His own children turned from Him and spoke against Him, he continued to provide and be constant. When He hung on the tree while the world scoffed at Him, he continued to love. Friends, He is committed to you and me no matter what our circumstance may be! Even though the world may change, and the people around you may change, and even though you may change, Jesus never will! We can always depend on Him and know that He is good.
