Hitting the Spot

A friend of mine once went to go get a massage because she had terrible sciatic pain shooting down her leg.  When she sat down with her masseuse at the beginning of her appointment, she explained the pain in detail so that it could be targeted and alleviated during the course of the massage.

Right before the massage started, however, my friend gave her masseuse a quick final instruction: not to massage her legs.

You see, she didn’t feel comfortable being massaged anywhere but on her back.  She had called up the place hours ahead and told them that she only wanted a back massage, and that’s what she was expecting during the course of her hour long session: a back massage that would get rid of the pain in her legs.

Many of us are the same way.  We come to God with an issue that is bothering us, and that we would like taken care of.  We come having a plan of how best to target and alleviate the situation, but without the willingness to give God access to certain areas of our lives that need to be dealt with.

“Be humble under God’s powerful hand so he will lift you up when the right time comes. Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you.” | 1 Peter 5:6-7

We are God’s children, and our problems are His problems. He is much better at solving our problems than we will ever be, and all we have to do is trust Him to work it all out.

The day we choose to give up control over own lives, we will see that everything doesn’t fall apart. We can relax in faith, trusting that God will handle everything without our instructions or help.
