And through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, He has now reconciled in His body of flesh by His death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before Him. | Colossians 1:20-22
I would like to think that I am in the healing business. I have trained strenuously for the past 2 years, and I can’t wait to go out there and help people! The ironic thing is that I make the worst patient. I don’t like to ask for help even when I should.
How about you? Do you try to deal with your problems on your own terms and with your own abilities? How is that going? When I try to do things on my own, I usually fall flat on my face. (I am a very clumsy girl.) From a very young age, I knew that I couldn’t live life on my own terms. It just wasn’t working! No matter how great my intentions were, I would somehow mess things up. Do you feel like your life is just a string of mistakes?
Well, I am human, and I was born into this world as a sinner. It was ingrained into my DNA to ruin my own story. How insane is that? It’s absolutely true though! That’s how sin works. It seems like such a small act or thought at the time, but the consequences of sin can have repercussions that have lasting effects. Nothing we do can fix it. Even attempting to fix our own dilemma is the equivalent of trying to patch up the Titanic with a piece of chewing gum. You are just going to keep sinking into the frozen water until you die.
I have good news! God saw from the beginning that I would need help. He knew that there was nothing I could do on my own effort, so He sent His only Son Jesus to do ALL of the hard work. Not only did He save me from my sad ending, but He also clothed me with His righteousness! Now when God looks at me, He doesn’t see all of my mistakes. He sees the victory and holiness of His Son. It gets even better though!
Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. | Colossians 1:12-14
As disciples of Christ, we have an inheritance from our heavenly Father! When Jesus redeemed us, we received not only a clean slate, but also a new position in the kingdom of light having direct access to the One who was willing to sacrifice all to have us at His side. If you haven’t, choose today to surrender all to God. Give your faults, your past, and your struggles over to Him. His scarred hands are more than capable of caring for you and your scars. Get to know Him, and I guarantee that your life will be transformed.
