Missionaries: Grant & Kandy Ferrer

DESCRIBE WHAT THE LORD HAS  CALLED YOU TO DO & THE COMMITMENT YOU HAVE MADE TO ANSWER THAT CALL:

These thirty-three years on the mission field have taken Kandy and I down a variety of different inroads to ministry. Evangelism, seeing new churches begin, and discipling new believers, as well as Christians of different maturity levels (with God´s help taking them to a new level), has been our focus.

TELL US ABOUT THE PEOPLE YOU MINISTER TO:

Three years ago, we moved back to Spain after 22 years in Central America. Our first ten years on the mission field we lived in Catalunya, but now we are living near Madrid. We have been working in a small assembly in Azuqueca de Henares that lost many of the congregation about 3 and a half years ago. When we first got here, it was like a church down on one knee. They have asked Grant to be an elder, but he chose rather to form part of the leadership and seek to be an encouragement for the time that God indicates.  There are two other assemblies (one in Madrid and the other in Avila) that are healthier churches and where Grant has been able to train in evangelism and basic follow-up. The church in Madrid, Carabanchel assembly, has begun Sunday night discipling groups.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE IN YOUR MISSION FIELD?

A challenge we face has been readapting to Spain. Kandy is now going to driving school and would appreciate your prayers as she takes her driving exam next week! We are aspiring to do more pioneer work when we come back from furlough (June 2016 through January 2017) as we prefer not to “build on another’s foundation,” and we would appreciate prayer for a solid team to be raised up in God’s timing. There is a couple in Honduras who is praying about moving to Spain, Roman and Mirta de las Heras. Please pray for them to be guided as far as God’s timing. Lord willing, they will  live in our house the six months we are on furlough. Another challenge has been the “two steps forward, one step back” type of growth in the church in Azuqueca. Please pray for the Azuqueca assembly and that they will see their need for training in discipleship and evangelism.

HOW CAN WE PRAY FOR YOU?
This is a photo of a couple who just got married, Fernando and Marta. Fernando is a believer and Marta has made a profession of faith and wants to be baptized. Here we are their witnesses at their civil wedding

Please pray for the little town where we live, Chiloeches, where there is no evangelical church. Many strong catholics and muslims live here. Also, please pray for continued open doors to train churches in evangelistic outreach and follow-up of new believers. Grant recently had his testimony posted on EscuelaBiblica.com. Pray for those who listen (over 3,000 views) will respond to the gospel and the change that God has made in Grant´s life. Pray for guidance as we continue to co-labor with Luis de Miguel in Avila to develop more training in evangelism online for believers and more evangelistic courses for unbelievers as well as follow-up for new believers. Grant discipled three young men for a year: Ben Knott, Samuel Bermejo and Dani Van Bemmelen. Ben is seeing a new evangelistic house group start with the blessing of his home assembly, Carabanchel in Madrid. Samuel is witnessing to a friend named Martin. Dani is working with the youth group in his local church in Tarragona as well as actively sharing his faith. Pray for Ben, Samuel and Dani. Also, please pray for the “discovery group” evangelistic Bible study on Thursday nights. Gladis is a new believer who has invited us to her home to reach out to her family. Her sister and brother-in-law, David and Yessi, are showing signs of genuine interest in the gospel. Please pray for Grant as he speaks at an Evangelism and Church planting Seminar in Hungary (with Zsolt) in May.

WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHALLENGE US WITH?

Praise God for each and every one and their interest in missions. While you are seeking to be a witness in your own family, circle of friends, neighborhood and job place, etc. be looking for “persons of peace” who want to reach their own families, friends, etc. and invite you to start evangelistic Bible studies in their home, etc. Also, in your local home church be looking for new believers that you could give basic follow-up to or believers you could disciple and, with God’s help, take to a new level with the goal of making and multiplying disciples. Robby Gallaty in his book Growing Up recommends discipling in groups of 3 or so. That way if one or two are faithful and another isn’t, you haven’t wasted your time. Seeking to win whole families – not just extracting new converts from their family – is a new idea we learned from Contagious Disciple Making by David Watson and see clearly as a pattern in the Word of God (reaching whole families).

Some resources that can help you reach these goals are: New Life in Christ for follow-up of new believers, Contagious Disciple Making by David Watson (the chapter on forming evangelistic “discovery groups”), Navigators “2:7 series,” and Growing Up by Robby Gallaty for the area of discipling and multiplication.

  1. Correction: The article says there were 300,000 views of Grant´s tetimony. I wish that was the case! It was over 3,000 views the first couple days since so many Bible students use the courses of that websit.

    1. Haha, we made the correction! And we’re praising God for the souls who did view Grant’s testimony! May the Lord soften and draw lost hearts unto Himself!

  2. Do you have an email address for Grant? I am an old friend and haven’t been in contact with him since 2009 and would like to get in touch with him.
