It took me about 23 years to learn how to be a warrior. It took so long for me to believe that the tools given to me aren’t of this world, but they are divinely given! My miseducation left me struggling to keep my head above water as I tried to figure things out in my own way, but eventually God taught me how to do it!
So here are three ways to
This is by no means a comprehensive list, but it is meant to get the juices flowing.
1. Cut off your hand & pluck your eye out!
“If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.”
| Matthew 5:29 -30
Translation: You know exactly what is causing you to sin, and you must
CUT IT OUT!
If it’s spending too much money, go cash only. If it’s binge watching Netflix, cancel your membership. If it’s pornography, cancel your internet. If it’s drunkenness, never drink alcohol again. The burden is, in fact, light compared to the true joy that comes with knowing Him!
2. Be diligent.
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” |
Translation: Diligence is discipline. Keep your guard up.
Guard your heart, and never let up. As believers, we are at war for the entirety of our lives here on earth. That means we can NEVER put down our sword or our shield – never take off our armor. Do we believe we are at war?? Do we believe what the Word says is true?!
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” | Ephesians 6:11-12
Satan is scheming! He’s waiting for the moment that we let our guard down, so that he can come in to devour us like a lion. Don’t be tricked into thinking that the fight is ever over. Don’t go down without a fight!
3. Fill up your cup.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” | Psalms 23:1-6
Translation: Your heart is opened.
So now you’ve cut out all that led you astray and you’ve set up your defenses… what next? The purpose of this great endeavor is for our own edification. The Lord directs us to fight temptation and pursue holiness, and as we attempt to do so we inadvertently empty our hearts and take on the peace of knowing His sovereignty.
We gain peace, and He gains a vessel for His powerful use. It’s an awesome relationship beyond compare.
Fight temptation, family.
Be a vessel for the Master’s good use!
“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.” | 2 Timothy 2:21
