Six days ago, I had a vivid dream in the middle of the night. [In this dream] I was asleep, and I awoke suddenly thinking “There is something you are forgetting to do!” Then it dawned on me that I was asked to preach at church tomorrow! I prepared nothing, and I asked myself why I had waited so long [my procrastination revealed?]. As I sat there [in my dream], racking my brain and praying for inspiration, I asked myself, “What has the Lord been teaching you recently? What are you excited to tell the Church about Him?”, but, again, I came up with nothing [my lack of intimacy with Him revealed?].

I had a sick feeling in my stomach that transcended this lucid realm and seemed to manifest in reality, because how could I come up with nothing?!

Almost in defeat, I sat trying to force an epiphany, but instead, like a flood of living water, the Lord reminded me of where my heart had recently been drawn! Revelation 21. And so [in my dream] I began to prepare a sermon on the One who is called Faithful and True. This is, quite literally, my dream sermon:

Revelation 21 is a powerful chapter in the Bible because we so clearly see the fulfilling of the Word of God through the realization and advancing of ancient prophecy. In chapter 21 the prophecy that came through the likes of Micah, Hosea, and Isaiah (if not others) clearly comes to fruition through the work of the King of kings and Lord of lords described in Revelation 19-20.

The sea is no more!

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. | Revelation 21:1

I’ve been hearing lots of my fellow brothers and sisters talk about this verse recently because after reading Micah 7, it is an exciting prospect that the sea is to be no more!

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. | Micah 7:18-19

Did you catch that?
Where are our sins cast into?
And what happens to that sea?

Praise the Lord, amiright? As far as the East is from the West, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us! He took our sin, cast it into the depths of the sea, and on that day of his triumphal return, the sea will be no more.

They will be His people!

And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. | Revelation 21:2-4

UGH! What goodness! Death shall be no more—no crying or mourning or pain! But above all that, He will dwell with us. The calm and wonder and satisfaction of the Garden will be restored, and we will dwell in the presence of God once more. This is so important because we were not always his people!

And in that day I will answer, declares the Lord, I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth, and the earth shall answer the grain, the wine, and the oil, and they shall answer Jezreel, and I will sow her for myself in the land. And i will have mercy on No Mercy, and I will say to Not My People, ‘You are my people’, and he shall say, ‘You are my God.’ | Hosea 2:21-23

Hosea was called to marry and relentlessly pursue a prostitute named Gomer. Despite her unfaithfulness, the Lord asked him to remain faithful to her. With Gomer, he had 3 children named Jezreel, No Mercy, and Not My People. The Lord promised that there would be a day in which all would be redeemed, and that he would say to “Not My People, ‘You are my people'”! Revelation 21 is the fulfilling of His promise and proof of His eternal and relentless Love beyond time or any boundary.

Water of life without payment!

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.” | Revelation 21:5-6

Imagine a spring of water that is pouring forth life. What would that be worth? What is life worth? Everything?

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.” Isaiah | 55:1

Did you know that Isaiah, Micah, and Hosea were all written about 800 years before Revelation? Thousands of years ago, a promise came through His servant, Isaiah. He promised us living water without price. The price was paid in full by Christ, and we will partake of the spring of the water of life without payment!

There will be no night!

And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day-and there will be no night there. | Revelation 21:23-25

Finally, we see a City with no need for sun because of the light of His glory and no need for closed gates because there will be no night!

The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.  | Isaiah 60:19

Praise the Lord for dreams of His wonder, goodness, faithfulness, and truth! He made His will known through people like Micah, Hosea, and Isaiah thousands of years ago, and He manifested his very person in the son, Jesus Christ. I long for the day of his triumphal return in which the sea will be no more; when He will call me son; when all can drink from the water of life without payment; and when there will be no night because of Everlasting Light.

Let us “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”!
