Follow Me

When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” Another disciple said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” | Mathew 8:18-22

Are you ready to give up the fame, the wealth, the world?

If I’m going to be very honest with you, this past year of my life the theme was survival. I just wanted to survive. I would do anything or say anything just to move forward one more day. I was rejected from a master’s program, I did not pass one of my teacher exams, my health puts up a barrier in which it is difficult for me to get pregnant, I was diagnosed with a pre-cancerous condition called Endometrial Hyperplasia. I was just catching my breath. There was so much cost involved with trying to take care of my job and my health. Was I following Christ faithfully? Nope. I was angry.

I felt like I had to take care of everything else before faithfully serving Christ.

Then I think back to what Jesus did for me. The cost he went through, the pain he suffered, the love he immensely poured out, just for a lowly person like me.

Jesus said in Matthew chapter 8 that “foxes and birds have places to rest, but me? I have no place to rest.” Jesus would travel for days with his disciples, and most days there wasn’t a cozy bed with pillows and cushions for resting.

A life following Jesus is a life that leaves behind everything.

That is the cost, my friends, life in complete surrender. But what is the reward? Eternal freedom that will bring much more happiness than this world could ever give.

God’s word says that many people flooded around Jesus. Children followed after Him, the sick and the weary followed after Him because they believed in the power of His saving grace. They believed He was good, kind and could save the poorest and richest of people. Being a follower of Jesus demands a change in priority.

How do your priorities line up with God’s?

I could have easily been one with this world. I had a lot to be angry for. I wanted to be successful, I want to be a mom, I want to be healthy…I want, I want, I want. Does it sound like I’m trusting him? Friends, we go through this all the time, the highs and lows of life. We can’t choose when we want to follow Christ. It’s either we are fully committed to following Him or we become sinful slaves of this world. What are you going to choose?

Jesus is saying…

Brittany, I know you want to be a mom. I know that is what your heart yearns for. But will you trust me? Just follow me.

Brittany, I know you are struggling with your cancer treatment. I am your strength forevermore. Will you trust me? Just follow me.

His plans are greater.
His plans are
better.
His plans are
filled with his everlasting love.

What more can we ask for?

Jesus promises freedom that delivers, a freedom that covers us from this sinful world, a freedom that forever binds us to Him. Like a Father and His child, that kind of love will never go away.

This world brings us a lot of pain, I get it, but with all my heart I know I can’t keep living with this world. My heart yearns for Jesus. He saved me and He saved you too. All He wants is for you to follow Him.

The time is now friends.

Don’t worry about everything else or what tomorrow may be.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” | John 8:12

We will never walk in darkness. AMEN!

Go be a light. Be radiant. Bring glory to His name, for it is the only name that deserves all the praise and adoration.
