The Simple Truth

When my husband and I moved to Texas, we both wanted a fresh start from the hard year we had endured in Georgia. We wanted to keep things simple. Healthy lifestyle, exercising, and living minimally were the steps we took to live out that motto.

Let me just tell you, meal delivery services are the bomb! It’s so easy nowadays to go online, pick your meals for the week (healthy portioned meals I might add), and have them delivered to your front door every week.

We all want simple, easy, and convenient.

However, when we are given the simple truth from the word of God we tend to walk away from that.

What is that simple truth?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. |John 3:16

So let’s break it down:

God so loved the world – God loves every person; Christ died for every person; therefore, salvation is possible for every person. It’s a love like no other. We are his creation.

Gave his one and only Son – The ultimate sacrifice. His one and only son bore all our sins and says, “You are worth it.”

Belief in him means you will not perish but have eternal life – His invitation. A life following Christ means eternal joy. A transformation renewed from the inside out.

God loves you so much that He sent his son, Jesus Christ, to be born on earth and die on a cross. Why? We are all sinners and the Bible says the consequence of sin is death—eternal separation from God. There is nothing we can do to make us “good enough” for heaven.

But God made a way. Christ lived a perfect, blameless life and provided the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He died in our place. But it didn’t end with His death on the cross. He rose again and still lives.

The beauty of this verse is
the freedom to follow him—
a life where his plans
and purposes are good.

That cross bore so much pain, but it was ultimately good; it was love. It is only by God’s grace, his undeserved mercy, that we can have eternal life with him in heaven. All we have to do is have faith, to believe Christ died for us, and ask him to forgive our sins.

This is the simple truth.

Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, that you died on the cross to rescue me from sin and death and to restore me to the Father. I choose now to turn from sins, my self-centeredness, and every part of my life that does not please you. I choose you. I give myself to you. I receive your forgiveness and ask you to take your rightful place in my life as my Savior and Lord. Come reign in my heart, fill me with your love and your life, and help me become a person who is truly loving—a person like you. Restore me, Jesus. Live in me. Love through me. Thank you, God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
