“Here I am, ready to go! Ahh, the timing seems just perfect! Don’t you see I’m all ready to go? I’m so tired of where I’ve been. Time for a change of scenery, so to speak. I’m all set for a new season, a new chapter, for this next part of my life to begin!”
“Oh sweet one. This isn’t time yet! You are so tender and precious to me. I know it seems like the right time, but trust me, this season isn’t time for that. I’m going to cover you up all warm and cozy. Trust me, this is where I want you right now.”
Have you ever had a similar conversation with the Lord Jesus? Being restless for a new season to begin, and then God gently reminds you to trust Him? *raising my hand over here*
This is actually a recent “conversation” I had with some bulbs in my garden that were popping out of the ground much too early. All the warm weather in Oklahoma has the bulbs I planted thinking it must be Springtime! Even though I was so excited to see them coming through the earth, I know that they shouldn’t be exposed to the elements just yet. They need more time to grow in the soil and establish good roots. So, I “tucked them in” with some dirt and mulch. I wasn’t upset at them for blooming a bit prematurely… they are only flowers. They are frail and need help. In due season they shall bloom.
He shepherds them according to the integrity of His heart, and guides them by the skilfulness of His hands. | Psalm 78:72
I believe God’s precious lambs (His children) can be like the bulbs in my garden sometimes, too. There are times when we’re just so sure it is our time to get out there, to start something new, to finally receive what we’ve long prayed for, be in that relationship you’ve been longing to have, etc. Sometimes that IS the case, but sometimes…
Sometimes the Lord comes along and takes the proverbial dirt and mulch and covers us over, tucks us in, in a sense, saying, “Not yet, dear little one. My time is better.” And so it is. In His time. The covering over doesn’t seem fun at the time, but it’s for God’s glory and our good. He isn’t withholding something good from us – He may even be protecting us from something that would be harmful at this point in time. Maybe we won’t see that desire come to fruition on this side of eternity, but God is still at work, He is in control, and ultimately all our desires can find their fulfillment in the Lord Jesus Christ, as we bring them to Him.
And He has made everything beautiful in His time… | Ecclesiastes 3:11a
Dear friend, don’t lose heart. The tucking in is to draw you closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. Lean in to what is lasting. His covering over is to you a blessing and not a burden.
My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my Rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the Rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. | Psalm 62:5-7
