Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us, but to give everything of Himself to us. | Ephesians 5:1-2 (MSG)

The day God poured out His righteous wrath toward sin upon His Beloved Son, was the same day He freely poured out His love upon sinners like you and me. This is true love:

sacrificing for the betterment of someone else,
asking for nothing in return.

A couple of things this translation brings out:

His love is EXTRAVAGANT:

This is the God of the universe, so even the tiniest bit of His love would be a mercy to sinners like you and me, and certainly more than we deserve. Yet He wasn’t going to spare anything to make a way for us to have a relationship with Him. He didn’t give the “tiniest bit” of His love… He gave extravagantly. Rather than trying to make the best business deal, He fully dealt with my sin in the most amazing way, seeing my own soul as precious and valuable enough to redeem it.


Romans 8:32 also reminds us that He spared nothing for us. As humans, we often don’t love people with ALL that we have. We hold back for fear of rejection or to keep ourselves more “in tact.” We love cautiously. Not so with the Lord Jesus. He gave it all for us, knowing there would be some who would reject Him! He still gave everything!

With these things in mind, here are some questions we ought to ask in light of Christ’s love: Am I withholding anything from the One who loves me this much? Are there people to whom I am willfully being unloving because I just don’t want to sacrifice myself? Do I love extravagantly? Do I love with everything that I am and all that I have?

Let’s praise Him for not loving cautiously but extravagantly!

    1. Hi Grace! That’s a great question! With a blog, we have to plan ahead for all of our posts. So we actually partnered with these artists back in February so that we could plan ahead for this challenge. The artists were picked before the posts were published to give them time to create their designs.
