Day 9 | Ezekiel 37:5

Featured Artist: Tiffany Mathew

Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. | Ezekiel 37:5

I love the visualization of this scene. Here you have a graveyard of bones, yet God speaks and says that He will breathe into these bones to bring them back to life! Does this remind you of a similar scene in Genesis? I immediately think of when God created the first human. He formed man out of the dust of the ground and breathed life into him to bring him to life.

Adam and Eve literally walked with the Lord in the Garden of Eden, but that state of perfection was destroyed when they disobeyed. Sin and death entered this world, and all of creation including humanity has been cursed. Since then we are literally

the walking dead.

While the bones mentioned in Ezekiel refer to the people of Israel, I think it’s important to realize that God, in His great love, wants us to truly live! He made this possible by sending down His only begotten Son who lived, died, and rose again!

For those of you who literally feel like all the life has been sucked out of you, cling to God’s promise that He who breathed life into dust to create mankind can breathe His Spirit into you, to transform you into

a new creation.

  1. Ahhh definitely one of the coolest passages in the Bible! It’s incredible to think that God, the Author of Life, very literally brings LIFE to our dead bones. It reminds me of when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. We know how much He loved Lazarus… and to think, that He loves each of us in the same way – that He defeated death FOR us, because of His great love for us – it’s amazing! Praise God for the new life we have in Him & praise God for His transforming power at work in us!
