Day 27 | Isaiah 55:6

Missed opportunities are the worst.

It’s frustrating when you’ve just missed the moment to say something pertinent, to get something off your chest, to establish boundaries, to take a trip, to connect with people, to learn something new, to grab a promotion, to finally relax. It’s annoying, even if it’s as silly as just missing the moment to land the punch line of a joke.

Timing is everything.

We’ve all been allotted a certain amount of time on this earth. We know this to be true. No one lives forever and no one knows when their time will be up. It’s all a mystery. That’s why we say things like “YOLO” and “carpe diem” – because as much as we hate to admit it, we are very aware of our mortality.

What about our eternities though? Do we care as much about our “forevers” as we do about our “right nows?”

“Seek the Lord while he may be foundcall upon him while he is near; | Isaiah 55:6

I’m going to get right to it, y’all: God exists. He created everything you see around you. He created you. As humans, we are flawed. We make mistakes, we do wrong – not all the time, no. But just once is enough to prove that we are sinful creatures – one impure thought, one white lie, one selfish moment. It doesn’t matter if you’re “generally a good person” or if you’re a better human being than so-and-so or if you’ve never murdered or stolen something before. You are a sinner. I am a sinner. We are all sinners. And there’s only one punishment for sin:

d e a t h .

That sounds morbid and extreme, but it’s actually perfectly just. There’s Good News though! You don’t have to die to pay for your sins. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, already did. He died for YOU, for ME, for the whole human race. Yes, your body is still going to die at some point, but your SOUL will continue to live on. Eternal bliss and joy can be yours if you accept that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins.

There’s one catch though.

You have to believe in Him before you’re buried six feet under. Remember what I said before?

Timing is everything.

Some people think they can wait God out. The truth: We can’t, because He’s eternal. Some people think they can YOLO now and “get right with God” later. The reality: YOLO-living has consequences and we’re never guaranteed “later.”

Some people think God doesn’t exist, that Jesus was just some moral mortal, and that faith is obsolete.
The bottom line: God is real, Jesus is God and died on a cross for our sins, and faith is the basis by which we are SAVED, RESCUED, RANSOMED, FREED, FORGIVEN.

All of these truths have
e t e r n a l   i m p l i c a t i o n s .

So SEEK the Lord now, “while He may be found.”
CALL UPON HIM today, “while He is near.”

No missed opportunity will ever top this one if you choose to continue living life for yourself, without God. You can “carpe diem” your life away, have all the best YOLO moments you could ever dream of, but the reality of eternity will never pass.

God loves you.

That’s why He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross for you, for me, for all of us. He died for all of the wrong, all of the sin we’ve done, no matter how great or small. He did it selflessly for the joy of saving our souls for eternity (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Don’t let this be another
missed opportunity.

Seek Him. Ask Him to help you see Him, know Him, understand Him, love Him. Do it now. Don’t wait another second.

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.Jeremiah 29:12-13
