As a child of God, you will go through so much in your lifetime. I know I am still “young” and have so much to experience firsthand, but by being a witness to the circumstances of what others close to me have gone through, I have gained more clarity of what the hills and valleys of life looks like.
When you look back on the lives of people, it is truly amazing to see how a multitude of experiences and choices led them to be the people they eventually became. Personally, when I look back on my life and the lives of other believers, I can see how God moved and shaped not only experiences, but the hearts of people. In the moment of things, it is so difficult to see that! Hindsight is truly 20/20!
I would recommend reading Psalm 71 if you have a chance. I don’t know who wrote this Psalm, but I love how the psalmist chronicles life: past, present, and future:
Upon You I have leaned from before my birth;
You are He who took me from my mother’s womb.
My praise is continually of You. | Psalm 71:6
God knew you before you ever existed. He knew how and when you would arrive into this world, and the reason you are here is because of His Will. Out of all the millions of gene variations, you came to be.
You are no accident!
He carefully crafted you and created you in His image. You are loved and cherished. That alone should lead us to worship the Lord.
O God, from my youth You have taught me,
and I still proclaim Your wondrous deeds.
So even to old age and gray hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim Your might to another generation,
Your power to all those to come. | Psalm 71:17-18
Even from a young age, God guides us through life and teaches us through His Word, the people He brings into our lives, and the different experiences we go through. Yes, our origins play a part in shaping who we become, but I have seen God transform lives in unimaginable ways…
If only we would let Him!
As He guides us, we realize we were helpless on our own might. Our response should be to share this great gift with others! This life is so hard, and as we get older it only becomes more difficult with more responsibilities. Why carry that burden on our own when we have this incredible great God who has the power to deliver us through every circumstance that will come our way?
He has overcome the world for us!
No matter what we face in this life, whether it is happy, sad, or somewhere in between, His Spirit will bring peace, comfort, and joy in every situation because He loves us so much.
You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
You will bring me up again. | Psalm 71:20
The psalmist’s ultimate hope was not in this life, but in a life yet to come. The writer had faith that God will revive life even after death. Because Christ died and rose again from the grave, we have that same hope for ourselves and those who have gone before us.
This life is a temporary stay, and we have an eternal life by His side to look forward to.
Essentially, God, who knew us before birth and carried us through life on earth even unto death, will be with us even into eternity. He says in His Word that He will give us a new imperishable body and an eternity without anymore pain or tears.
