Into Your Hands

“Into your hand I commit my spirit.” | David, c. 1000 B.C. (Psalm 31:5)

“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” | Jesus, c. 33 A.D. (Luke 23:46)

Father—

Into your hands we commit our lives,
our futures, our ambitions,
our dreams.

Into your hands we commit our fears,
our worries, our restlessness,
our doubts.

Into your hands we commit our flaws,
our mistakes, our shortcomings,
our faults.

Your hands: capable, loving, mighty,
universe-holding, and yet
gentle.

Those hands: once nailed to a rugged cross,
indelibly scarred, wounded
for me.

Where would we rather be? Where else can
we go? We are yours. Yes, we
are held.
