Be Thou My Vision

Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law| Psalm 119:18

I’m sure that Peter never forgot the wonder of what happened to him one night when he obeyed the Lord Jesus Christ and stepped out of his boat in the middle of a storm. That night, the storm was raging and the waves were threatening to overwhelm the ship, but for the moments that Peter kept his gaze on Christ, he did the unexplainable—he walked on water.

The Bible reminds us that we can trust God always, and when we fix our eyes on Him, we get to experience the wonder of knowing Him. The Lord allows storms to rage in our lives sometimes, but it comforts me to know the HE is sovereign over every area of my life. He knows what’s going on in your life and if you let Him, He will allow those difficulties to shape you into a person who looks more and more like Jesus.

Instead of fixing your eyes on your insurmountable situation, turn your eyes to the Lord Jesus Christ. Let Him be your vision!

Ask Him to give you a clearer understanding of who He is through His Word. As you grow in your walk with the Lord, He will become your most cherished thought. You’ll care less about the things this world has to offer when you realize that your inheritance is Christ Jesus himself!

What is in your line of vision today?

I encourage you to drag your eyes away from anything that is not the Lord himself. Do it, and experience the incredible wonder of getting to interact with the God of the universe. He wants to reveal Himself to you. Do you want to know Him?

Set your eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ today. Treasure His law and be willing to guide your wandering heart back to Him every time it is tempted to stray—which it will be. And then you’ll be able to honestly sing these words:

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise.
Thou mine inheritance now and always!
Thou and Thou only the first in my heart.
High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art!
