Yep. You will face setbacks and disappointments today. Guaranteed.
In fact, you may be feeling down right now.
Maybe you’ve had a tough week.
Perhaps life feels frustrating.
Maybe you’re in a funk and just can’t figure out how to get out of it.
If that’s the case, I have a simple suggestion for you.
Remember the big picture!
Ask yourself…right now, are you:
Right now, you are alive. God gave you this day. Today is a gift.
You are free. Free to move, to work, to travel.
You are healthy. Able to breathe, think, exercise.
You are extraordinarily wealthy. (Don’t believe me?)
Millions of people would be thrilled to live the life you are living right now.
Sure, our lives are never a cake walk; we all experience challenges and painful moments.
But please keep the big picture in mind. Doing so is a powerful way to overcome disappointment and discouragement.
For me, whenever I think about the grand scheme of things, I realize that, ultimately, most of my complaints are irrational. Discouragement is mainly due to a limited mindset. Changing my perspective reminds me of how blessed I am.
Even if someone hurts you today or lets you down, even if you feel overwhelmed by all that’s on your plate, remember: you are so phenomenally blessed.
Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. | Psalm 107:8-9
(Btw, Hans Rosling’s book Factfulness is a fantastic reminder of how well-off we are, and how our world is measurably better today than it ever has been. Highly recommended, perspective-changing, optimism-boosting read.)
